A zoo located in the San Pasqual Valley area which houses more than 3,000 animals and a botanical garden with more than one million plants. From behind-the-scenes adventures to exhilarating zip line tours, guests can immerse in the natural habitats of giraffes, elephants, cheetahs, and more. Open 9 AM - 5 PM daily. Tip: As several varieties of mammals are most active at dusk and dawn, take advantage to see the animals roaming around before dark on the Twilight Wildlife Safari.
Avian Behavior International
An animal sanctuary home to many different species of free-flying owls, hawks, falcons, parrots, ravens, toucans, and other birds, as well as farm animals and reptiles. With diverse events, workshops, and classes available, guests can witness flights of free-flying birds and gain insights into parrot behavior and falconry techniques. Prices range from $77 to $500+ per person. Open 10 AM - 4 PM daily. Tip: Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes as some experiences require a short 10- or 15-minute nature walk to get to the birds’ habitats.
Nurtured By Nature Animal Educator Experience
An educational experience that teaches kids and adults about each animal, its habitat, and how human behavior affects the natural world. Weather permitting, visitors are able to swim and play with the otters. Encounters may be booked on their website; hours vary based on activity.
Alta Vista Botanical Gardens
A botanical garden with 14 acres of designated gardens, walking trails, works of art, and community gathering areas. Open 8 AM - 5 PM. Monday-Friday; 10 AM - 5 PM, Saturday-Sunday. Tip: Be sure to check out the calendar of events for activities like yoga in the garden.
