What To Pack For Your Trip to Wander Joshua Tree

Andi profile pictureAndiMay 16, 2024

Are you looking forward to your stay at Wander Joshua Tree? Here is a packing list to make sure you bring all your essentials so you’re ready for any outdoor adventures that come your way!

The beautiful desert landscape of giant rock formations and rolling mountains make Joshua Tree the perfect destination for nature lovers. Its stunning views of the Coachella Valley make it the pit stop of the decade.

You will find yourself hiking, rock climbing, camping, biking, stargazing, and simply enjoying the magical magnetism of Joshua Tree. A great way to maximize your stay and enjoyment is to make sure you bring all the essential items with you on your trip.

Clothing

Tops

Athletic tops, whether they are long-sleeved or short-sleeved will be your best friend on this trip. Make sure that the tops you wear are breathable and cover your shoulders from the sun. You might also want to invest in tops that offer UPF sun protection and moisture-wicking properties to help you stay cool.

Bottoms

A trip to Joshua Tree will most likely be hot, especially during the spring and summer. If you plan to participate in outdoor activities around the area, trail shorts and cargo bottoms are the ideal go-to during your stay. Make sure that they have zippered pockets and are durable and flexible if you plan to stay active and comfortable. If you prefer to wear pants, make sure they can roll up at the bottom for flexibility and to allow your ankles to breathe. Yoga pants are also a great option since you can wear them for lounging around the house and on outdoor activities such as hiking trips.

If you plan to visit during the colder seasons such as fall or winter, make sure to bring a pair of leggings to wear underneath your bottoms.

Shoes

Your trip will be full of trekking plans and exploring the great outdoors, so the most important piece of your wardrobe will be your shoes. Don’t forget to pack a pair or two of your best hiking shoes and if you do plan on climbing, make sure to bring a separate pair of climbing shoes as well.

Make sure that your shoes have a good tread and are suitable for your needs in all the activities that you’ll be doing. You can also consider wearing hiking sandals that are lightweight and just as supportive as hiking shoes.

Outerwear

Remember to bring a waterproof jacket with you as well. This is great for keeping you warm in cool-weather hikes and windy evenings around a campfire. If possible, make sure that they can easily be folded up to wedge into your backpack.

Accessories

Invest in socks. There’s no point in having the best hiking shoes if your socks can’t keep up with you or your activities. Make sure that they keep your feet dry by wicking away moisture and prevent any rubbing and blisters from your shoes after a long day of adventure. Remember to always bring an extra pair in your backpack whenever you go out for outdoor activities.

Just like wearing sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays, your Joshua Tree outfit will not be complete without sunglasses to protect your eyes. Consider investing in hiking sunglasses that are great for the outdoors, such as those that are polarized and sport polycarbonate lenses.

Things to Bring for Your Outdoor Adventures

Backpack

If you plan on camping during your trip, check that your backpack is big enough to fit all of your equipment, extra clothes, and the water that you’re bringing. Confirm that the straps of your backpack are comfortable enough to wear for the duration it takes you to arrive at your destination.

Important features that you should consider looking for should be that they’re water-resistant and have enough compartments and pouches to keep your things organized.

Daypack

If you plan on a day trip around the area, such as a casual hike or a visit to the National Park, a day pack is a good thing to bring and can fit all of your essentials. It is recommended to go for something lightweight with extra features such as back support and a waist strap made for comfort.

Sun Hat

Stay out of the sun’s glare by bringing with you a sun hat that will keep you cool. Pick a wide-brimmed hat that can cover your entire face while you are hiking. Some hats even offer features such as UPF and moisture-wicking, withstanding any activity you engage in.

Also, if you love taking pictures for Instagram, you could also opt for a hat with a drawstring, so you can easily toss it back while you’re posing.

Water Bottle

Don’t forget to stay hydrated! Bring a water bottle whenever you go outside and make sure you have at least one or two gallons of water per person with you. Bring more if you plan on camping for the night.
