Best Coffee Shops in Joshua Tree, California

Codeth profile pictureCodethMay 10, 2024

Many birds, insects, and other animals depend on the namesake tree for food and shelter. The humans, on the other hand, depend on Joshua Tree for a little more than that, including the rich history, the massive national park and most definitely its coffee and tea houses.

Traveling to new destinations means new opportunities to immerse yourself in local culture. As a foodie, a huge chunk of that immersive experience is grounded in the local foods and drinks I’ll have. So to our coffee and tea lovers checking-in at Wander Joshua Tree, keep on reading -  this one goes out to you!

About 15 minutes from your Wander home, you can find Joshua Tree Coffee Company! They pride themselves on using locally sourced coffee beans and brewing the finest quality cup o’ joe you’ll have in Joshua Tree.

You may sit on their outside patio, sip your coffee, and bask in the California desert; but if you’re like the Black Eyed Peas and “just can’t get enough of” these brewed beans, you can take home a bag or two for $15 each! So the next time you’re having serious J-Tree tabanca, just grab your bag of beans and enjoy a sip of Yucca Valley at home.

Picture this: you got up at five in the morning and went for a hike, you watched the sun rise, and you’re making your way back to your Wander home. The hunger is setting in and you want a hearty, home cooked breakfast but cannot be bothered to actually prepare the meal yourself because come on, you’re on vacation.  So what started off as an amazing day, has slowly turned into a frown fest. What a picture!

Luckily, that’s not a reality we have to live through. You can bite into your favorite breakfast or lunch items at JT Country Kitchen and get a taste of the warm and inviting vibe that it’s known for. To wash down the food, you have the option of having a cup (or two) of coffee, some warm herbal tea or if you prefer your tea iced, they have you covered just the same.

Frontier Cafe

The dining area mirrors the classic, dry, desert charm that is indicative of Joshua Tree and is flushed with much natural lighting. Along with your drink, you have various breakfast, lunch, and brunch options as well as sweet desserts to choose from.

Maybe it’s the local art, or perhaps it’s the background music, but there is something magical and inspiring about the atmosphere there. So, if you have made it to the end of your vacation and still haven’t visited, squeeze in a quick pit stop and make this cafe your final frontier.

The Dez Fine Food

  • Distance from Wander Joshua Tree: 9.7 miles (15 min. away)

  • Address: 61705 Twentynine Palms Highway, Joshua Tree, CA 92252

  • Hours: 7:30 a.m.  - 5:30 p.m. daily

  • Contact Number: (760) 794-9747

  • Website: https://www.dezfinefood.com/

This spot is a little different from the rest of places I’ve mentioned so far since there are no “dez-ignated” seats available. Everything is packaged and ready to go when you arrive at The Dez Fine Food. They prepare fresh salads, paninis, sandwiches and other quick bites for everyone in Joshua Tree. It’s the perfect food plug for those picnic days at the national park!

But you didn’t click on this article to hear about all those food frills, you’re here for the caffeine. So yes, they do sell coffee here too! Their espresso is praised by many and each coffee beverage is made with two shots of Stumptown Hair Bender. Now, if that’s too weak for you, just ask for another shot - they’re very accommodating!

760 Coffee Company

  • Distance from Wander Joshua Tree: 12.6 miles (18 min. away)

  • Address: 282 Old Woman Springs Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284

  • Hours: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily

  • Contact Number: (541)-601-7918

We won’t talk about the irony of them not having a ‘760’ area code; instead, we’re focusing solely on their great coffee and even greater staff. 760 Coffee Company is a mobile truck that serves you a tall cup of pick-me-up. They serve iced and hot coffee, smoothies, and milkshakes too. You can also grab an energy drink here or one of the local favorite brews.

The black and white truck is pretty hard to miss and you’ll be glad that you didn’t either, because you stop for the coffee, but keep coming back for the great service.

Roadrunner Grab + Go

  • Contact Number: (760) 974-9290

Continuing with the grab and go theme is the perfectly named Roadrunner Grab + Go. They provide snacks, sandwiches, salads and drinks including coffee and kombucha tea. If you’re in a bit of a rush, this spot is a good pick and unlike Wile E. Coyote, you won’t leave this roadrunner feeling hungry nor unsatisfied.

Starbucks

  • Distance from Wander Joshua Tree: 4.1 miles (9 min. away)

  • Address: 57744 29 Palms Hwy Yucca Valley, CA 92284

  • Hours: 4:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. daily

  • Contact Number: (760) 369-9920

Maybe you’re in the mood for something a little less local and closer to what you’re used to having back home. If that’s the case, then you’re in luck, because these desert-lined streets have a Starbucks in town!

Starbucks is known for its full coffeehouse experience. So while you’re guaranteed to be served hot or iced coffee and teas, you can also look forward to the sweet and savory pastries that are available. But the barista at the Starbucks in your hometown knows your name and order by heart, so you already knew all of that before I even said it.

Have a Great Stay!

Our Wander homes come equipped with practically everything you’ll need to pretend you’re the next contestant on “Beat Bobby Flay”, but sometimes a little coffee run can go a long way in lifting your mood. Not only that, but at each spot, the experience is completely unique.

Whether the experience is memorable for its local art presence, the music, the warm people, or all of those things combined, you’ll be glad you stepped out for a bit to bask in Joshua Tree and all its rustic beauty.

We can't wait for you to explore all the wonders that Joshua Tree has to offer, from stargazing activities to rock climbing! Our concierge desk is available to chat 24/7 if you have questions about your trip. See you soon!
