With an average annual snowfall of 400 inches, the resort boasts excellent powder conditions throughout the winter season. Big Sky features 24 chair lifts and 12 surface lifts, including the Lone Peak Tram that takes visitors to the summit at 11,166 feet.

Hike Ousel Falls

Distance from Wander: 10.7 miles

Location: Ousel Falls Rd, Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730

This short, 1.6-mile hike is the perfect way to get used to the high elevation in the area and to prepare yourself for other hikes around town. The trail starts with a fork that can lead to so many adventures including ending up in the densely forested Yellow Mules trail, the South Fork overlook and even the base of the stunning waterfall that has a picnic area and pool. 

Hike Hummocks

Distance from Wander: 10 miles

Location: Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730

After trekking Ousel Falls trailhead, a good follow up is Hummocks. There is slightly more elevation gain but with it being 3 miles round trip, you’re guaranteed to get your heart pumping.

Hike Beehive Basin

Location: Beehive Basin Rd, Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730

The most challenging of the three on this list is Beehive Basin. Though challenging, the 6.6-mile round trip hike is worth it with it ending in a beautiful basin with a mountain pond. Since this is a longer one, we suggest taking lunch or a nice snack to reward your hard work at the end of the hike.
