Blue Bird Mine Complex

The Blue Bird Mine, situated in what is now Caribou Ranch Open Space, serves as a testament to the aspirations that drew thousands to Colorado in search of fortune. Initially a silver mine, Blue Bird thrived in 1876, producing high-quality ore and garnering local excitement. Over its 90-year history, the mine faced shifts in purpose, from silver production to a tourist attraction when the Switzerland Trail brought visitors, and eventually returning to mining until its closure in 1964. Today you can still visit the remains of this mine area to experience history first-hand!
