Although Florida’s panhandle is part of the state’s Forgotten Coast, there is no shortage of natural beauty and outdoor attractions to enjoy here. Its exclusion from Florida’s tourism promotions preserved its collection of uncrowded beaches and lush forests.

Built in 1852, the Cape St. George Lighthouse survived 153 years, withstanding hurricanes, wars, and erosion until its ultimate collapse in 2005. The beloved city icon was rebuilt the following year.
In 2011, the St. George Lighthouse Association completed the construction of a replica of the original Keeper's House next to the lighthouse. Today you can climb the lighthouse ($5 per adult and $3 for children under 12), and visit the lighthouse museum and the boutique gift shop all year round.
Tip: The lighthouse has 92 wooden spiral stairs and a narrow metal ladder to the lantern room. If you’re claustrophobic or have any health conditions impacting your ability to climb, this isn’t the best activity for you.
