The Oregon Coast is a great place to vacation with the entire family - it caters to nature and history lovers alike. But taking a trip to this west coast destination is made even more “purr-fect” because it has so many places to visit and things to do with your furry extended family.

So brace yourself for windy adventures and endless animal puns as I take you through a list of pet-friendly spots all around Port Orford that will make your stay at Wander Orford Cliffs even more amazing!

Pet Friendly Activities

Cape Blanco State Park

Cape Blanco State Park is considered one of the most beautiful state parks around. The view is impeccable and the history there is rich.

You and your four-legged friend will enjoy taking a stroll on the beach or hiking on more than 8 miles of trails. There is also access to viewpoints of the ocean and much wildlife to see.

If you and your dog are into it, you may even go fishing on the Sixes River. There are also picnic tables available for when you’re a little peckish during your mini adventure.

As the cherry on top and an FYI to our history buffs out there, you should know that the park  houses the oldest standing lighthouse on the Oregon coast (which was erected all the way back in 1870) as well as the house of an early Irish settler that was built in 1898.

So lace up some sensible shoes, grab your pet and head to Cape Blanco State Park for a chill day of adventure and a series of history lessons.

Humbug Mountain State Park

The forested campground of Humbug Mountain State Park is a literal breath of fresh air. From there, you and your pup can enjoy the expanse of a beach near Brush Creek that’s only accessible via the park; so it should be pretty private for you and your buddy.

There is also a 5.5-mile hike up to the top of Humbug Mountain where you’ll experience jaw-dropping ocean views. The Oregon Coast Trail also passes through this park so you have lots of ground to cover with your furry pal.

Plus, about half a mile southeast of the park, there are picnic areas with a gazebo that you may reserve for daytime use after your dog has had their fill of exploring along the trails.

Battle Rock Wayside Park

There is much to see and learn about at Battle Rock Wayside Park. There are huge rock formations that allow a great view of the ocean below; and if you’re lucky and are visiting between July and September, you’ll even spot a few Pacific Gray whales.

You and your pet will surely enjoy the walk down to the beach and it will be totally worth it. There are tidepools to explore, a great deal of beach to just let loose on, and oddly shaped rocks for you and your dog to have a great time between, beside or below.

Just be sure to wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting a little wet to protect your feet on the trek down.

Restaurants

The Crazy Norwegian’s Fish and Chips

It’s always good to listen to the locals when traveling to a new place; and according to the Port Orford natives, the food at The Crazy Norwegian’s Fish and Chips is a must-have.

The locals are definitely onto something with this recommendation because you can always expect a line there. They serve the obvious fish and chips, burgers, soups and salads all made from scratch.

On top of this, you and your pet can sit on the outside seats and enjoy the food along with the Oregon Coast views.

Happy Tails Pet Supplies

For a quick top up on food or to get some extra reinforcements in the toy department, Happy Tails Pet Supplies is a great pick. Don’t be fooled by their store size, they stock a very wide selection of foods, toys, treats, and other pet accessories for dogs, cats, birds, and many more animals.

A cool thing that’s worth mentioning as well is that they help homeless cats and dogs get new homes. So, the next time you’re vacationing in Port Orford and your pet needs a little TLC, treat them to a trip to Happy Tails Pet Supplies.

A key ingredient in a great group vacation is ensuring that everyone gets to do something they like; and your canine companion is not excluded from this. Just be sure that your pet is kept hydrated, fed and under your control at all times in public spaces (by holding them, their collar or on a leash no more than 6 feet long).

Also, remember the coast is pretty windy and sometimes even foggy, so wear your  wind protection gear to stay safe and bring poop bags for the treasure your dog may leave behind.

Remember, your Wander Text Concierge is always ready to help. So whether you need more information about any of the places mentioned or perhaps you need a few more options, send them a text and they’ll provide that information for you. We can’t wait to host you and your furry friend on your next Oregon Coast adventure!
