At Wander, we love little, four-legged friends so we won’t leave them out of the vacation shenanigans! Here’s a list of activities you and your pet can do, a few nearby pet stores as well as some restaurants you can enjoy together while staying at  Wander Tahoe Slopes.

Pet Friendly Activities

Lake Tahoe is the place to be for pets and their humans. Check out these fun activities that you and your four-legged friend can do together.

Mount Judah Loop

Mount Judah is a 4.6-mile hike just off the Pacific Crest Trail that offers gorgeous views and overlooks Donner Lake. There is not much steep elevation so your animal friend will love frolicking along this path.

However, there’s lots of wildlife along the trail, so keeping your pup on a leash is encouraged. Don’t forget to bring water for them and yourself too!

Truckee River Legacy Trail

Soak up lots of sunshine with your furry friend along the banks of the Truckee River. This trail is 6 miles long and is frequented by bikers, runners and dog walkers alike.

It’s a great spot for you and your pet all year long and an even sweeter spot in the winter time since it’s plowed when other trails are covered in snow.

Palisades Tahoe Aerial Tram Ride

On this 10-minute tram ride, ascend up to 2,000 feet and enjoy the view of glorious Lake Tahoe from above. After the ride, you arrive at High Camp, a recreational complex with wide-open meadows that your dog can frolic freely in. You can also go for a hike up there and allow the little doggy to take a dip in the clear, cold waters of Shirley Lake.

The entry cost for persons aged 13 and above is $39 on weekdays and $49 on weekends; for children ages 5-12, the cost is $29 on weekdays and $39 on weekends and for children 4 years and younger, it’s completely free.

The summer heat gets a little intense, so during those times, bring an umbrella to shade you and your dog and don’t forget to bring lots of water too!

Patton Landing - Waterman’s Landing

This spot is great for larger dogs as the water gets deep quickly. Your canine will love splashing around, fetching toys out of the lake, and making new friends at Waterman’s Landing. It’s pretty rocky on the beach, so bear that in mind when selecting your footwear.

It’s also a popular location for paddle boarding and other water sports. It’s an ideal hangout for the rest of the family too since there’s a small snack bar and restroom facilities available - perfect when your family has tiny people with even tinier bladders!

Skylandia State Park and Beach

This is an all-in-one experience for you and your pet as there are biking trails, hiking trails, and a picnic area. While your furry friend can chill at the park, they’re not allowed on the beach and they must remain leashed.

  • Distance from Wander Tahoe Slopes: 18.8 miles (33 minutes away)

Advanced reservations and payment are required in order to guarantee your spot. So have a look around their website to see which activities you’re interested in.

Remember to keep your doggy on a leash if they’re not under strict voice command. Also, take lots of water in preparation for your adventures as well as some mutt mitts with you to clean up after our little friend.
