La Costa Beach

Distance from Wander Malibu Beach: 0.2 miles  

This beautiful and secluded coastal destination is the closest public beach to Wander Malibu. It features a sandy shoreline, and visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and lounging. Free parking is available nearby, along Pacific Coast Highway, and the beach allows visitors to indulge in picnics, beach sports, and leisurely walks along the water's edge. 

Tip: To the east of the beach, you’ll find Malibu La Costa Beach Club, a private beach club. The sand above the high tide line is considered private property. Be sure to respect property boundaries and stay in the designated public areas.

Malibu Lagoon State Beach

Distance from Wander Malibu Beach: 2.2 miles 

The Malibu "Surfrider" Beach is part of Malibu Lagoon State Beach, along with the Malibu Lagoon and the Malibu Pier. Each area offers a distinct experience, with the lagoon encompassing wetlands and gardens, Surfrider Beach showcasing extensive ocean frontage, and the Malibu Pier serving as a center for saltwater fishing.

The California State-operated Malibu Lagoon is not only a bird habitat but also home to historical sites like the Adamson House and the Malibu Lagoon Museum, allowing visitors to explore the region's evolution from the Chumash tribe to the surfing era.

Tip: There is a beach parking lot located across from the Adamson House, with prices ranging from $3 for one hour to $12 per car per day. 

Point Dume State Beach and Preserve

With over one mile of ocean frontage and 34 acres of sand, this scenic spot is surrounded by headlands, cliffs, and rocky coves, offering vast beach access. Various amenities are available, including restrooms, showers, and nearby restaurants.

This beach is great for swimming, diving, surfing, and scuba diving. Moreover, visitors are treated to breathtaking views of Santa Monica Bay and distant Catalina Island on clear days. If you are seeking a little adventure, check out the surrounding hiking trails that feature popular viewpoints often pictured in Hollywood movies, such as Planet of the Apes.

Point Dume offers limited parking at the top area of the preserve, but additional parking is available along the lower-level coastal road for $8 per car per day. 

Tip: The beach is open from sunrise to sunset. Dogs are strictly prohibited. No fires are allowed at any time. Big Dume and Little Dume Beach are close to Point Dume State Beach and worth visiting if you have the time.

Zuma Beach

Zuma Beach, the quintessential Southern California coastal gem, offers a vast expanse of white sand stretching for 1.8 miles along 105 acres of property. Eight parking lots accommodate approximately 2,000 vehicles, while amenities like restrooms, restaurants, showers, and volleyball nets provide convenience.

Despite slightly cooler waters, Zuma remains a beloved spot for swimming, body surfing, surfing, and windsurfing, allowing the opportunity to witness the majestic winter migration of grey whales.

Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach

Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach features three captivating pocket beaches—El Pescador, La Piedra, and El Matador—identified by signs along Pacific Coast Highway. Offering moments of seclusion and magical views, these small beaches provide a serene escape, with limited parking atop bluffs and pathways leading to the shore.

Tip: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed, so you will need to leave your furry friend at home when visiting.
